The Military Picnic at the Lubuskie Military Museum in Drzonów is the largest and most eagerly awaited outdoor event organised by the museum. It takes place every year on 15 August, Polish Army Day, and offers a unique opportunity to meet soldiers in person and learn about the modern face of the Polish armed forces.
On this day, the museum hosts soldiers from military units stationed in the Lubuskie Province and friendly formations from the region. These include, amongst others, sub-units of the 11th Lubusz Armoured Cavalry Division, armoured, mechanised, artillery and air defence units, Territorial Defence Forces, as well as representatives of the military air force and the Military Recruitment Centre. The picnic is primarily an open and family-friendly event – a chance for visitors to talk to soldiers, learn about the realities of their service, and show their gratitude for their daily work in safeguarding the nation’s security.
One of the event’s main attractions is the display of military equipment, which soldiers bring along especially for their celebration. Modern vehicles, equipment and weaponry attract both the youngest participants and adult enthusiasts of military history and technology. The displays are complemented by museum exhibits, including historic vehicles which, thanks to the commitment of volunteers, have been restored to working order.
The highlight of the Military Picnic is the ‘Little Parade’, held around the museum pond. To the rhythm of a military march, soldiers and museum staff present modern and historical military equipment in a dynamic, spectacular display that remains in the participants’ memories for a long time.
The Military Picnic in Drzonów is a blend of history, modernity and direct contact with the military – an event that attracts thousands of visitors every year and has become a permanent fixture in the region’s calendar of major cultural events.
