The Tank Crew Picnic is one of the most important and best-known outdoor events organised by the Lubuskie Military Museum in Drzonów. The event has been held annually since 2017 and has become a fixture in the calendar of regional events dedicated to the history and current activities of armoured forces.
The Lubuskie Voivodeship has long been known as the land of tank crews. It is here that the legendary 11th Lubuskie Armoured Cavalry Division, known as the ‘Black Division’, is stationed. The Tank Crew Picnic is held on the Sunday in June closest to 17 June, which is Armoured and Mechanised Forces Day. The event aims to honour armoured troops, commemorate the proud traditions of the Polish armoured forces, and express gratitude for their daily service.
During the Tank Crew Picnic, the museum grounds in Drzonów are filled with modern and historical military equipment, presented by armoured troops from, among others, Żagań and Świętoszów. Vehicles on display to date have included Leopard 2A4 and 2PL tanks, the legendary T-34-85, WZT-3 and Bergepanzer 2 technical recovery vehicles, as well as the KTO Rosomak, Dana howitzer, WR-40 rocket launcher and many other vehicles and weapon systems.
An integral part of the event are dynamic demonstrations of military equipment, including both museum artefacts and
as modern equipment of the Polish Armed Forces. However, the Tankers’ Picnic is not just about spectacular displays – above all, it is an opportunity to talk directly with soldiers, learn about the realities of their service, and personally thank them for their hard work and commitment to defending the country.
The Tank Crew Picnic at the Lubuskie Military Museum is an event that bridges history and the present, attracting both military enthusiasts and whole families looking for a meaningful, educational way to spend their time.
